First glulam construction in Uganda
In 2019, an engineer in wood science and technology with a degree from the Bern University of Applied Sciences (CH) joined forces with Fairventures Worldwide, a non-profit company, to develop a small project. The project consisted of creating a bench using glued laminated timber for the showcase structure. Both the glued laminated timber and the showcase were manufactured and erected in cooperation with the Ugandan carpentry company KAVA International in Kampala. Globalwoods, a forest company in Uganda has offered their support in providing the material of sawn-lumbers from their pine plantation at Kikonda, in Kyankwanzi. Now the bench, an all around success, is exhibited in Jinjaroad in Kampala.
